The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren would be unveiled in 2003 to huge fanfare, owing to its earlier concept counterpart, the Vision SLR. An abbreviation for “Sport Leicht Rennsport,” the SLR was a product of a long-standing partnership between Mercedes-Benz AMG and McLaren, their lead Formula 1 partner at the time. Mercedes-Benz was set to deliver the styling – with the world-renowned designer of the McLaren F1, Gordon Murray, at the helm. Offering a modern take on the historic “Silver Arrow” design style, the SLR defined new boundaries not only for Mercedes-Benz, but for the supercar industry as a whole. McLaren, on the other hand, was wholly responsible for its performance, from development and engineering to the manufacturing and testing of each production car. Its carbon-reinforced plastic monocoque held a sizable 5.4-liter, supercharged V-8 engine, good for 617 hp, and a 0–60 mph sprint in just 3.8 seconds. Despite these impressive figures, it managed to be both comfortable and luxurious, even at high-speeds, making it a true grand tourer.
Although it was initially launched as a coupe, a roadster variant followed late in the production run by 2007. It offered the same power output as its hardtop variant, while allowing for an open-top motoring experience thanks to its electrically assisted soft top. With just over 2,100 total SLRs built, only 670 were Roadsters, making it an incredibly rare breed.
This SLR McLaren Roadster was delivered to its first owner in summer 2008; it was one of just 106 Roadsters to be delivered that year. Its exterior is cloaked in the stunning shade of Crystal Palladium Grey, accented by a burgundy soft top and turbine-style silver alloy wheels. Stepping inside, its two-tone, black and red leather interior complete an incredibly cohesive specification. Its original owner would enjoy the grand tourer for two years before it was passed via a brief intermediary to a Southern California-based collector. Despite a climate so well suited for top-down motoring, the SLR McLaren would see just occasional use. The car was also treated to frequent servicing at Mercedes-Benz of San Diego, including an oil service and inspection in July of 2023. Later that year, the consignor would purchase the Roadster with just over 5,700 miles on the odometer. It has since been kept in a climate-controlled garage, with the only exception being a recent servicing, where it received a new starter battery and hood struts.
This SLR McLaren Roadster is an immaculate example of the sole road-going model produced between two motor sports heavyweights: Mercedes-Benz AMG and McLaren. With its unique blend of modern performance and timeless luxury, do not miss your chance to enjoy this unique and exceedingly rare grand touring driving experience. check back for more information.
